Getting a Library Card
Need a library card? Need to renew? Here's what you need to know before you come into the library.
We issue cards Monday through Thursday 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM, and Fridays and Saturdays 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Rhode Island Residents
To obtain a free OSL library card please visit the Circulation Desk inside the library. You will need to fill out an application, provide positive identification and proof of your current Rhode Island address. For children under the age of 14 years old a signature of the parent or guardian is required.
Non-Rhode Island Residents
Non-residents who pay property taxes in Rhode Island may obtain an OSL library card at no charge with proof of property taxes paid. All other non-residents need to come in person to obtain a statewide OSL library card for an annual fee of $150. A local-use only card, allowing access to only Lincoln Public Library materials, may be obtained for a yearly fee of $50.00.
Temporary Library Card
Rhode Island Residents that do not have a library card can register for a temporary card online. A temporary library card grants limited privileges. Holds placed with a temporary card are active for 30 days. You must show a valid Rhode Island ID and proof of address at your local library to get a permanent card. This must be done within 30 days or the temporary card will be deleted. If you are not sure if you still have an active library card please contact the library to check.
Lost/Replacement Library Card
If you have lost your library card call the library immediately to report it missing. After being notified, the library will not allow anyone to use your card. If you do not report your card missing, you will be held responsible for any items checked out on your card. There is a $1.00 fee to replace a lost library card.

Message Alerts for Ocean State Libraries' Cardholders, powered by Shoutbomb
With the library's Shoutbomb text messaging service, you can use your mobile phone to:
- Receive text notices about holds that are available, items that are due soon and overdue items.
- Send a text to renew an item (if item is eligible for renewal)
- Add family members’ cards to your Shoutbomb account with keyword ADDCARD.
The library does not charge a fee for this service. Your mobile plan's regular text messaging rates apply.
To get started, text the keyword SIGNUP from your cellphone texting app to 401-298-2013.
Reply to the prompts from Shoutbomb, asking for your library card number, then PIN. Once your Shoutbomb registration has been completed, you will automatically get text notices about holds to pick up, items that are due soon and overdue items. A text will be sent only when activity on your account triggers a message, or information is requested.
Why is my library PIN required?
To protect your privacy and library account, your PIN is required when signing up for Shoutbomb text alerts. This is the same PIN used for logging into your online library account and prevents others from accessing your library information.
